Tungsten probes
A very precisely ground profiled tip was ground onto a fine (1mm diameter) tungsten rod. This tungsten probe component is used as a medical probe, and being made from tungsten, passing an electric current through it raises it to a very high temperature for removing skin tissue without the electrode oxidising and destroying itself.
